In the lead up to Christmas 2018, Caring with Carers was able to support Out of Home Care agencies with our Christmas Toy Drive.

We were thrilled to be able to accept many generous donations from businesses and individuals and pass them on to those in need.

2018 Christmas Toy Drive

It was a joyful time for Caring with Carers in the weeks leading up to the “big red man” arriving. We delivered over 140 gifts for children over the age of eight to Out of Home Care agencies. On top of the gifts, we also delivered just over $2,000 in gift vouchers, which consisted of movie tickets and activity vouchers. The icing on the cake this year was the vouchers pre-loaded with money so the teens could purchase a gift they wanted.

We delivered to many of the agencies we worked closely with throughout 2018 and they were so happy to receive them. With a lot of excitement they were able to pass them on to specific children and young people needing a little more this year. This would not have been possible without very kind donations and thoughtful team members.

The statistics of children and young people entering formal Out of Home Care are on the rise. This year we will work hard to make sure we can provide them with stable, loving foster families to stay with for the time they require. In some cases, this may only be a short period while the NSW courts are deciding if they can return to family or if they need to remain in care until they turn eighteen.

Does it make a difference?

The answer is YES! Caring with Carers will continue to support as many agencies as we can throughout the year ahead. We received many thank you emails from those who we could give gifts to and vouchers.

Here are some of the responses we received:

Tom aged 14 – “Thank you for my movie voucher, the hotel is boring with a worker, so I am glad I can see a few movies over the school holidays while they find me a stable placement.”

Asha aged 17 – “I have been asking my case worker for some make up for ages and she said they didn’t have money in the budget for this, so I went out with your vouchers and bought my new makeup”.

Link aged 9 – “Thank you for my monopoly game, we played it on Christmas Eve and I won, the worker staying with me helped me learn the rules and winning made me smile, thank you Santa’s helper.”

From an agency – “It was amazing to be able to watch the children receive wonderful gifts at their Christmas party this year, thank you to all those who donated to Caring with Carers.”

So finally, thank you for responding, sharing the word, collecting gifts or donating money/gift cards; it made a real difference to others. We look forward to speaking with you all again in November 2019 to see if you wish to be part of the annual toy drive. If you hold any fundraisers throughout 2019, we would like to hear about these to see if we can assist you and help raise funds to support those who need it most. In the meantime, take care, stay safe and we hope 2019 is a successful year for you all.
