Find out more how to become a foster carer in the inner west of Sydney

Carers allowance paid and rent can be fully covered

Becoming a foster carer can help have a positive impact on a child’s life, while being a richly rewarding experience, for both adults and children.

Caring with Carers are working with a Out of Home Care Agency servicing Sydney’s Inner West, and we are actively seeking suitable carers who are able to provide safe, stable and loving home environment to children and young people between the ages of 9 and 16.

“You may be curious about fostering, but worried about your relationship status, your status as a tenant, your age or your work situation and how this will affect your eligibility”.

We welcome people regardless of age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and religious beliefs. Of course, a commitment to respecting children and promoting their right to be heard is essential. So if you’re kind and compassionate, generally healthy, single or a couple and 21 years or older, you can apply. Ideally one applicant from the home should not be working, or only working part-time, so that they have the flexibility to assist the young people with their education, social, life skills, family engagement and medical appointments. Experience in the caring or  youth work sector is also desirable.

Adults finishing a social work degree or similar are also encouraged to apply. You also need to be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident.

To be considered for this round of applications, and to qualify for a full rental rebate, we are specifically looking for placements for children in Sydney’s Inner West.  So if you are renting in the Inner West, or prepared to move there, we would love to hear from you. All your rental expenses can be covered. A generous caring allowance will also ensure that there are no unexpected or out of pocket expenses.

More about the program

This program is designed to provide flexibility and support so that successful applicants can provide a stable placement for those needing Out of Home Care.

Potential carers must have empathy for the demands of youth work and an appreciation for the culture of youth. Applicants will undergo a foster care assessment and checks. Full training and support is provided.

  • Approved foster carers receive comprehensive training, respite and 24/7 support.
  • Approved foster carers in Sydney’s Inner West can have their rent expenses fully covered, and will receive a carers allowance.
  • We encourage children to remain connected to culture, family and community.
  • We welcome carers from all walks of life and families of all sizes.
  • We have an evidence informed approach that supports both carers and children to thrive.
